Chahui in 7s Art

In 2022, we hosted three formal chahui (tea ceremonies) in 7s Art in Manhattan, New York. Themed around the solar terms, the ceremonies were held during the periods of Guyu (Grain Rain), Xiaoman (Grain Buds), and Liqiu (Beginning of Autumn).

Each chahui was presented in both English and Chinese, featuring two carefully selected teas that resonated with the theme. Upon arrival, tea guests signed the register and received a menu elegantly handwritten with a traditional brush. During the first three infusions of each tea, conversation was set aside to fully embrace the tea experience. As guests' eyes followed the graceful and serene movements of our tea artist, Mengyan, they waited for the tea to unfold like a guided meditation, a moment suspended in time and tranquility.

Between the two teas, we savored homemade tea snacks and exchanged thoughts on tea, art, and cultural experiences. Our chaxi (tea stage) served as a small oasis in the bustling city of Manhattan, allowing us to reconnect with nature's rhythm and find a moment of tranquility. The entire experience was not just a tasting but an immersion, a respite from the daily rush, and a celebration of the subtleties of tea, art, and life.
