"Rocky" Porcelain Teacup
These Rocky Teacups, created by artist Ruth Borgenicht and inspired by the spirit of Chinese landscapes, was featured in the Tea Alchemy experimental tea ceremony we hosted at Fou Gallery. Each piece is hand-molded, resulting in a unique shape that resembles a mountain rock when inverted. Its rounded base prevents it from standing upright, requiring it to be held in hand, thus reminding the tea guests to focus on the tea appreciation experience and be present.
The exterior of the teacup is glazed in brown and dark green, using a special technique to create a texture akin to mountain rocks. The interior is glazed in warm white, enhancing the visual appreciation of the tea's color and harmonizing with the warm tones of the exterior, imparting a sense of warmth.
Balancing artistry with practicality, this cup also offers excellent functionality. The shape fits comfortably in the hand, providing a pleasant grip. Its moderate size makes it suitable for daily use. Additionally, the thick glaze on the inside and the cup's thick body enhance its ability to retain heat and fragrance.
