Chinese Tea Ceremony & Meditation

  • Teasthetic 89 5th Avenue #701 New York, NY, 10003 United States (map)

In this immersive experience, you’ll mediate following the Zen school of teaching, and appreciate two kinds of premium Chinese tea, masterfully brewed.

Tea enhances our meditation practice, while the mindfulness we gain from meditation deepens our sensory awareness, allowing us to savor the subtle flavors of tea.

What You Will Experience

  • Cultivating Mindfulness: We will do a guided Zen meditation to relax our body and mind, gain mindfulness, and embrace the present moment.

  • Awakening the Senses: During the welcome tea and the Chinese tea ceremony, we will use Zen techniques to awaken our senses and fully appreciate the aroma and taste of each tea.

  • Exploring the Zen Tea Culture: When tea culture began flourishing over a millennium ago, it was closely connected with Zen and meditation. Today, we will explore the unique cultural experience of “Zen and tea, one in taste.”

Agenda

  • 11:00 AM -11:15 AM: Introduction & Welcome Tea

  • 11:15 AM - 11:45 AM: Guided Meditation

  • 11:45 AM - 12:20 PM: Chinese Tea Ceremony

  • 12:20 PM - 12:30 PM: Sharing

  • The Chinese tea ceremony is a ritualized way to savor tea. The contemporary practice draws its influence from the Ming Dynasty scholars and the Gongfu Tea Ceremony in the Chaoshan. Engaging in a tea ceremony is an exercise in mindfulness that deepens your appreciation of the tea.

  • Absolutely! We’ll guide you through each step, making it intuitive and easy to enjoy.

  • Zen meditation techniques, derived from Buddha’s teachings 2,500 years ago, focus on simple, clear practices to cultivate mindfulness and a calm, centered awareness of the present moment.

  • Certainly—we are here to guide you. The actual sitting after the initial guidance lasts 15 minutes, making it accessible for beginners.

  • We recommend sitting on a floor cushion if you’re able. We also recommend wearing loose, comfortable clothing for the sitting. If you find floor sitting challenging, chairs are also available.

  • On Sundays, type 7011 into the intercom to enter the building.

Registration is required, with an admission fee of $40. Limited to only 7 spots, ensuring a deeply immersive experience for each attendee.

Join us to embrace mindfulness and savor wonderful teas!
